I still stand by the idea they must be under-staffed. But that's probably giving them too much benefit of the doubt to think they're stupid...

Well, that's fair, honestly. Elda shrugs at that, letting it wash over her. ]

no worries, though, it's apparently both their "day off"-- he won't press too hard or overshare about his desire for a retrospec bloodbath. there is probably a time and place.

So? Wanna tell me what Ms. Marker's been up to lately? —'Sides these missions I guess, if you'd rather talk 'bout somethin' nicer.

[ She considers that for a moment before just responding, ]

Well, missions are most of what I've been up to. Both of us have been out there for two weeks - in my case chasing wolves and talking to townsfolk.

[ But other than that... huh. She considers, ]

Other than that... Well, I guess I had hoped to learn more about that Last Fantasy game this month.

... Chasin' wolves and talkin' to townsfolk sounds 'bout par for the course for these missions, yeah.

[ if he's going to be honest-- john's no video gamer, but the missions do have certain quest-like attributes to them, enough that he knows a pattern when he sees it. his brow arcs at the last comment.

Yeah? What's Last Fantasy?

It's this big computer game people play together. When I won the Ninja Warrior thing back in November, I also won a year's subscription to it and a bunch of computer things to run it, so I've been trying to see if it's any fun for me. I still don't think I get it, though.

[ Hence the hoping she could figure it out more this month... ]

[ so it is video game, hm. ]

[ john squints— don't say anything about age and teaching old dogs new tricks, that could be rude, you are a GUEST in her home. ]

I see..! Well, if it's any consolation, I dunno how any of that c—[ ... crap ] —stuff, works either. Hell, can't remember the last time I actually played a computer game, beyond solitaire.

I mean, likewise? Well, sort of. I guess I did play things in the arcades back when I was young, but I've not touched a video game since I was twenty beyond that stuff you can do on your phone.

Whatever. They got that virtual reality stuff nowadays, so I've heard. If that's not what Last Fantasy is, it'd probably be different from the stuff on your phone, yeah?

Oh, leagues different. I don't think it's the virtual reality I got promised in my teen years, but it's sure something else, that's for sure.

What do you even do on it?

... Kill monsters, mostly, I think?

... Haven't we been takin' care of stuff like that this entire month?

Not as much on my end, actually.

[ his eyebrows lift. ]

All right, 'sides chasin' wolves and minglin' with the villagers— what? You got me burnin' with curiosity, now.

For me it's literally been that! Some other groups ran into other complications, but I think the whole thing's leading up to a confrontation with wolf daddy.

There's one big black magic wolf who either is the patriarch of or just is all the other wolves.

Well! Guess they all came from somewhere. That your own nickname for him?

Not really!

[ Okay, tea's more than done, she's just going to pour out and generally... sip her own even if it's hot. But. ]

I don't know what to call 'em. I was just doing a turn of phrase.
