Perhaps I'm not as fled from... well, the old rationality.
[ It's hard to fall that conclusion irrational, given what they know now. The woman frowns, and glances at the book again. She brushes her fingers on it and then taps on it. She's sure that's going to be recorded by them, by others. But May's also right that it's not too surprising? No, it is surprising, honestly. At least that there was this train station. And then as she flips to that last note (rewriting history...)
Exhale. ]
It's sloppy of them to leave it unlocked, honestly.
The app started getting around early last year. This is about ten years before that... Hey, you know more about this than me, is there anything big that happened with this shit ten years ago?
-For her, ten years ago was finally leaving the care of the church and getting out on her own, but that hardly seemed related.-
[ Ten years ago... she tries to think about it. About Retrospec? No, not that. Maybe the town itself, maybe the world in general...?
She shakes her head, but finds herself putting her thumb to her lip - a motion to bite a nail, perhaps? But her nails weren't really long enough for that - as she tries to think it through. ]
... Not that I can recall. twenty years ago is when the statues of the other three founders went up. Maybe ten was around when the current mayor first took office? I don't know, it feels like the man's been there forever.
[ She nods. She's not sure if it belongs in the guide or where, but she would love it for her personal files anyway. It'll be helpful later. ]
No, something clearly happened... I'm not sure what to make of when this was abandoned. All evidence points to the fifties other than some weird quirks.
See, that's also weird, isn't it? Despite everything else, not all this stuff is antique. There's some relatively modern clothes in those stores. I found a walkman in one of those stores. Like oldschool style for cassette tapes.
Honestly, this graffiti seems to be the newest thing here...
I saw some Freshens wrappers for not all that old looking food in the carts before now. I chalked it up to maybe being workers or homeless, but I don't know why they would be in the carts.
Maybe stuff down here is like... preserved or something. Like it's stuck in time. -She was suddenly very worried if her loot wouldn't, like, dematerialize as soon as she left.-
[ But them, there was some stuff that looked old and spoiled, right? And if everything was stuck, wouldn't they be stuck? Still, as she's pondering it a bat calls, she tilts her head up and holds out her arm for the thing to land there, and she locks eyes with it after she does.
... Mmmhm. Okay. Mmmhm. ]
... There's a train waiting for us already, apparently?
Whether you did it with your mouth or what, it still happened! -Now that she thought about it, that pamphlet the woman had grabbed mentioned vampires...-
[ I mean she's not... really been hiding it but for now with the bat shifting to sort of hang on her sleeve she smiles and shrugs and her red eyes look to make eye contact with the other and - ]
No, no! Not like I can turn into a bat or anything! That was all my muscles and reflexes!
[ Which... is was. Though they were also super reflexes and super strength, even if she wasn't doing it in such a way that she would overwhelm it all. ]
[ She had not! She saw the advert but ain't her scene. ]
Not really, no. [ A shrug. ] Actually, I should probably learn that or some more offensive martial arts, start with lessons one of these days. Mostly I've done a lot of self-defense courses.
I mean, I can also teach you how to use a two-prong hook anchor as a weapon, too, but that ain't useful. Boxing is something I learned here, as the OG me. It's way more intuitive.

Re: May
Rewrite history? That's... not what Retrospec claims to be about at all.

Um are we just not gonna mention that you just talked to a bat?! -Yes, yes, train waiting for them, perfect, but BAT?! TALKING TO?!-

I might take you up on that. I've had other people offer to teach me to shoot or use a sword or whatever and I just... don't like the idea of that.
