Recollé Blood Affinity Permissions

Okay! So while Elda actually does have another ability which could demand a permissions post (erasing memories), that ability is activated by choice and I will always ask permission about that if it ever comes up. This post however is about an ability she can't shut off because it's one of her new senses: she can smell blood and also smell for Blood Affinity.

So in Karin, Blood Affinity is the preference in taste of blood that a vampire has. But that taste is actually defined not by actual blood type or anything (though that can be a factor, just like diet, when you're actually drinking it) but instead by the emotions of people! Which is silly but hey, what're you gonna do. So for example, Elda's grandson Ren is attracted to the blood of stressed out people and his body involuntarily reacts to the smell of the blood of particularly stressed people. Likewise with particularly youthful people and her husband James.

Elda's (admittedly headcanon, it's never explicitly spelled out but this is best guest from implications) Blood Affinity is basically ennui/unfulfilled-ness/listlessness, but specifically the tired feelings that arise in people as they get older. Think middle aged people, salarymen, people who are feeling crushed under the weight of adulting, people in midlife crisis mode? Stuff like that. People who have that as a potent/common emotional state will have their blood smell/taste better to her and people who are particularly youthful will have their blood smell/taste worse to her. The smell of particularly good blood for her causes a physiological reaction in her that will resemble her being flustered because this is a shojo series (though she will get better about hiding this over time).

So uh! If you want you can do me a solid and fill this out especially if you regularly interact with Elda because this is an involuntary power. However because this does technically involve smelling emotions (even if they aren't like... particularly revealing ones) you can feel free to just opt out of it. Otherwise:

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: I would say at the moment it is better. He is ennui personified since he is always a little tired dealing with happy people since he wants them to be happy but also knows his happiness stems from their unhappiness. It leads to some exhausting feelings after while. As he becomes more Kirei, it is more indifference and being a trash pile so I dunno if that would taste good. Don't eat garbage, Elda.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Well, there is the eventual Grail mud. But also probably spicy as hell since he eats mapo tofu like it is going out of style.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Worse, she's more hopeful and excited now than she's ever been.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Right now, it's not an issue, but later on, her blood will store a bunch of solar energy, and if the comics are anything to go by, that has a good chance of burning a vampire up on the spot. So, uh, there's that.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Probably worse! She is very driven and focused. Most of her negative feelings are the opposite of ennui, honestly.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Other than the affinity, she's in excellent shape, so her blood probably would be very tasty, except... Yeah.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: While I'm definitely saying worse here- especially recently yay character development, Silver is feeling bright and youthful and ready to take on the world- I totally want a running gag where Elda absolutely knows when Silver just got out of a bad day at retail because damn his blood smells fine, that's weird.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Idk his blood's probably fine (Kingdra probably smells best out of the Pokémon but you don't want to bite that)

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: As of right now, it'd probably smell worse. Jaeger does have the potential for it to smell better, since she'd absolutely love Yeager's blood, probably.
Any other notable facts about their blood: His blood is (probably) completely normal despite the heart blastia! Canon never gives me any indication of anything else, so.

Does your character have blood?: Yes!
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Arguably better just based on affinity; he's a very driven person but he's also very Done and sort of reaching the point of "fuck it"-induced zen.
Any other notable facts about their blood: ...all of the above aside his blood is full of zombie plague and it'll definitely taste more like blood that's been dead for a while. and that's fucking disgusting. don't put it in your mouth, elda. oh my god.

Does your character have blood?: Yep.
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Probably lean worse, especially with recent events. He's starting to get more confident and ready to Do Stuff thanks to powers, and he would occasionally fall into his "I wasted my whole life what do I even do now" hole... if he hadn't broken his heart stone and accidentally erased his biggest regrets from memory. Maybe he'll get that stuff back at some point but time will tell.
Any other notable facts about their blood: MIDICHLORIANS???

Does your character have blood?: Yep.
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Worse. Shouto's driven and his negative feelings tend to be more "I'm not doing enough" than tired.
Any other notable facts about their blood: It's probably hot and then cools off faster than normal blood should.

Does your character have blood?: yup! type B positive!

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: This is actually touched on in canon by Slayer, but ki users with high proficiency (May included) have SUPER rich blood. That and May's cheery personality may mean her blood is too "sweet" for Elda.

Any other notable facts about their blood: As said, May's incredibly high proficiency with ki usage (it's how her super strength works) richens her blood. So if anything it'd be like an exceptionally indulgent dessert than anything else.

Does your character have blood?: Oh yes. Here. *Matt spits out blood for millionth time during a fight*
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Somewhere in the middle perhaps? Matt has determination and will power to spare, and he regularly follows his mission for justice and the safety of others through both his day job and his night activities. That said he wears himself out to the point it's a miracle he doesn't collapse, and as determined as he is his view of the world is not all sunshine and rainbows. He often suffers from symptoms of depression and copes via workaholic habits and punching criminals. His blood might go back and forth between good and bad smell based on how well he's taking care of himself. I think you'd be the better judge of that though.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Matt's blood is likely very good quality since he has grown to dislike the taste of super processed foods and sticks to eating organic as much as possible. Thanks super taste/smell for ruining Twinkies. ;_;

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Better. He's a tired 33 year old man working two jobs and his regains are just making things worse, in a sense. He's just trying to get through life and is world weary and is convinced the world hates him too.
Any other notable facts about their blood: He drinks a lot and is borderline alcoholic so I imagine that affects it some.

Does your character have blood?: Yes.
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Worse. Roji's still relatively new with adulting. He's driven, with quite a lot of energy.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Nothing particularly of note here. He's your average human who generally eats healthy home-cooked meals but is prone to indulging in sugar here and there. Hypothetical regained abilities down the line probably wouldn't affect that.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: DELISH! Here we have a man eight years into a teaching career after giving up the dreams of his youth to return to the stage. He loves his students but the job takes countless hours of reading essays and grading and telling Jimmy to stop texting in class. DON'T ROLL YOUR EYES JIMMY. There is a reason he wants to cry anytime a student stops to THANK him. Now here comes Retrospec and reality storms to screw with his life and mess up his students in ways he could never imagine and there seems to be nothing he can do to protect his forty teenage children. Sadly he was not some powerful badass in the last life. He was a vanilla human with stress and worries in spades from what he remembers. So no use expecting super powers to kick in and come in handy. To top it off he has an innate fear of success and confidence issues masked behind a sense of humor but let's not get into that here. Right now the best thing happening in his life is his cute puppy dog being funny and the fact the guy he's in love with returns his feelings- OH WAIT except that they aren't even dating thanks to several complicated obstacles. SOMEONE BUY THIS MAN A DRINK!

HOPEFULLY his blood will begin to smell less appetizing when he figures out how he can help his students. When good/bad things happen to the teenage cast he will be affected emotionally. (Graduation time makes him more hopeful. Yukine FREAKIN DYING makes him less hopeful. etc.)

Any other notable facts about their blood: Alcohol consumption will go up for a while as I write this in March 2018. Foggy does not drink nearly as often or as much as he does in canon however because of the nature of his career. His diet is between reasonable and naughty. He lives with his teenage sister who pushes him more toward a healthier diet when it comes to meals. It is snacking that is his biggest downfall in this department. Foggy likes to eat or drink his problems if nothing stops him. He might smell great but have a less impressive texture if he was stuffing his face with french fries earlier that day.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Probably... pretty good. He was born an adult and he's in his thirties?

Any other notable facts about their blood: Err... as he regains his canon body, he gets a lot of genetic modifications and consuming cells from him might be trouble? /stares and FFVII, Jenova, and aliens destroying civilizations mess...

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Jirou is only 25 right now and even as he gains his years he won't really change and still be quite youthful. He just doesn't get any of those feelings no matter what so he's never likely to smell delicious to her.
Any other notable facts about their blood: That some boozy blood yo. But honestly after he becomes more tsukumogami than human he's not likely to be very good for her. Tsukumogami are objects that have gained souls after all. Already he's becoming more tied to being one of these so it's unlikely that he will ever be particularly good for her.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Being an heir ever since she was a child means that she's pretty much A Fucking Tired Teenager all the goddamn time so leaning towards the better because she is kind of in this life crisis state of being hugely dissatisfied with her life in terms of her occupation even though she acts outwardly cheery and bubbly her internal emotions don't entirely match up as it's mostly a facade to keep herself together.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Mio's in pretty good shape. While she does have a disease that she'll be getting down the line, it shouldn't affect her blood at al since it's more on the psychological end of diseases.

Does your character have blood?: Yep! Although he's a vampire so technically he sort of has two people's blood in him at various times??
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Aside from the vampire thing, definitely worse. Fai gets a little discouraged about his job (being a social worker is a particular kind of hell) but in general he's a very spunky, upbeat, happy person. When he's not being smacked with Retrospec surprises at least ;)
Any other notable facts about their blood: Vampire!! And also he still consumes a lot of sugar so there's that too :D

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: i have no idea; he's young but already really hates life and work etcetc. if his blood actually tasted like he feels, then it'd be salty and bitter. so like. neutral or worse maybe??
Any other notable facts about their blood: don't think so. he tries to keep a decent diet but like, #poorlife makes that difficult.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: UMMMM maybe sometimes; largely though, elizabeth kind of rolls with whatever gets thrown at her. she does obviously have her... breaking point, but she prefers to ~~repress it~~ take the high and mature road. handle it like an adult. things like that. so probably not worse, probably just like, ordinary. it isn't like she's bright-eyed about the world/the entire opposite of elda's type, she just... goes with the flow...??? you can decide based on this tbh
Any other notable facts about their blood: i really honestly don't know. she's a velvet room resident. makes vague gestures. it isn't like it's going to kill her or be full of the plague though so

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Mmm probably neutral/worse based on how stressed out Sakura is feeling. She's young enough where she won't feel overwhelmed in the same manner as a middle-aged adult working 3 jobs to make ends meet and assuming that's as good as it's going to get for them, but! As she acquires more memories and has to juggle those + school + a job, she might reach the college student's version of that listlessness, where the world could end the next day and she'd be grateful for the nap.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Well Sakura eats more sugar than she should, tbh. Not to a point her diet needs to be upheaved, but hey, girl likes her ice cream. There's also the fact she's a mage, though given how Sakura is unique for significant reasons you're already aware of, I actually don't know how that would translate? Mana does tend to pool in the blood stream, so Elda could potentially notice that oddity. And this is to say nothing of when Sakura regains her link to the The Root.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Worse! Minako is 22 and full of energy and drive. Even on her bad days, I don't think she'd get to mid-life crisis levels of ennui and unfullfilledness.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Her blood is probably 50% sugar.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Probably worse! Baren's restless but it's because he has a passion for life and living and seeing everything more than being unfulfilled. He's very Young, Wild, and Free.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Shouldn't be anything here!

Does your character have blood?: Yup!
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Definitely worse! He's a young boy, and while he's fairly serious and has have a lot on his plate (namely studying super hard so he can help contribute to his family's business sometime down the line, plus... everything re: Retrospec), he's very driven and hard-working!

... also he's in the flush of first love right now (and all it's confusing feelings) so that's... probably not going to be all that appetizing either HAHA
Any other notable facts about their blood: He comes from a magical bloodline in canon! I don't know if this means there's magic actually IN his blood or not (THANKS CLAMP), but he does have the most power in his family (or so he says) so... idk if that's something that can affect the taste or not? He is fond of sweets, but not to the point where it'd affect his blood, I think? He eats pretty healthy and stays in good shape otherwise!

..... he also blushes a ton because he's an easily embarrassed shoujo boy so MAYBE THAT MEANS SHE CAN SMELL HIS BLOOD EASIER???? WHO KNOWS.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Worse. Rather than world weary, Kamui is pushy, restless, and thrill-seeking.
Any other notable facts about their blood: For now, nothing of note.

Once Kamui regains his Yato blood, however, it'll be a different matter. Within Kamui's Yato blood is a sort of collective intuition made up of the emotional memory of his ancestors. His blood may well revolt/overwhelm her rather than just smell unappetizing, depending on what you'd be interested in. The blood wouldn't just be affected by Kamui's own bloodlust but the bloodlust of all his fight-crazy ancestors on top of it.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: I mean it smells like ink, but if it's still affected by affinity, probably middle of the road? He's young but so tired of all this stuff.
Any other notable facts about their blood: It's ink my guy.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: The way I play Cloud he's usually positive, but the character is famous for his impressively deep emo fits.
Any other notable facts about their blood: With Recolle regains his blood will contain extra infusions of life energy and/or death virus.

EDIT: As of May 6 his blood does have the life energy + death virus additives.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: probably...betterish? he's very dissatisfied with his life and, thanks to regains + his own personality, he tends to have a pretty bleak view of his life. he does his best to act indifferent but really he's just a ball of self-hatred. but he is 23 so...maybe that cancels out some of that good taste.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Idk what to note here...? He's a pretty normal human.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: I'd say 50/50. He's young but he also has a lot of things going on in his memories that make him feel T i r e d. More so the more he learns too, I'm sure.
Any other notable facts about their blood: He eats very well; health wise. Misses meals sometimes but the ones he eats are very healthy.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Probably neutral. He's not hyper, but not completely bored either. He's not world-weary either, but more... detached. However, his sword form is 624 years old so it might be felt?
Any other notable facts about their blood: Kenta is now fully a tsukumogami so he will register as a spirit to other supernatural creatures. In the future he will also regain the ability to dematerialize into the sword itself, in which case no more blood.

Does your character have blood?: She's full of it
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: She's actually going through something of an early life crisis as she is dreading graduating from college (because she has no ideas for careers) and is scared of adulting, which is why she is distracting herself with girls and adventuring so much at the moment. She is still gung-ho and optimistic in every other regard, so her blood probably smells okay. It's not exactly ennuis since she's driven to do things, but in attempt to avoid and distract herself from the things she should be doing.

Once she gets over those issues in a couple months it's going to smell terrible because she'll be positivity incarnate.

Any other notable facts about their blood: She has a tendency to faint so she may have naturally low blood pressure or mild anemia.

Does your character have blood?: Yes, he bleeds.
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Hm. Probably tending towards worse? He is probably one of the most hopeful/optimistic of the series once he mellows out more after reuniting with Mika at least. And he is definitely young, still sixteen and all. idk if the presence of his seraph gene/demon might influence that later once he regains those possibly? But Mika in canon seems to prefer his blood to that of the others in his squad, though that might just be because he is more comfortable with Yuu in general in comparison to Yuu's other friends.
Any other notable facts about their blood: idk he probably has a mixture of the typical US teen diet of snacking on junkfood but he is also from Japan so otherwise probably has dishes from that area depending on what ingredients are available in Recolle? Otherwise, yeah. The demon/seraph thing once that is regained might be something to take into account. Though this doesn't stop Mika feeding from him, so it doesn't seem to be harmful to vampires in canon at least.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Better. Togusa has been gunning for a promotion that he was passed over for, and has been trying to keep his enthusiasm up about his current position. But he can get quite depressed about his lack of opportunity. This feeling has doubled-down since his relationship with Gentiana didn't work out. Has he missed out on his opportunity for romance and a family?
Any other notable facts about their blood: Togusa is super-healthy. The whole micro-machines thing, they are limited to his brain, and do not enter his bloodstream, so his blood is just blood!

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Middling? Mostly as a result of the uncertainty from what memories he'd get and how to react to it. And also because he just had an incident recently that has him questioning whether or not he should continue with his passion.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Nothing yet. He's pretty healthy.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Worse, tbh. Sorey's working on his funk and that means the 'NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER' sunshine shounen hero is back in full swing.
Any other notable facts about their blood: He does have a sweet tooth, particularly vanilla ice cream. Just putting that out there. He doesn't eat all garbage but he gets away with a lot because of his metabolism.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: He's pretty mature. I'd say with appetizing, yes.
Any other notable facts about their blood: He's healthy and human. Pls don't die him.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Well, he's middle age by now, and he's pretty listless in a cat sort of way. The more of Gon he'll get the more tiresome he'll find things to be; though that's mainly because of laziness or early onset of old-man-blues even though he's not old by kitsune standards.
Any other notable facts about their blood: He smokes pretty much. Not as much as Gon and normal cigarettes instead of whatever it is in Gon's magical pipe. I'll get back to you on the inhuman thing once he stops being human. He is otherwise very healthy and he likes food a lot.
These days he's more furry. He's still technically human, but I don't know if the added fur is going to change what his blood taste like.

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: It could go either way, I think? Miai is a super thrillseeker and go-getter and such, but it's largely because he's super easily bored with life and pretty unsatisfied with himself and the life he's living. What he's doing isn't Enough so he always needs something more interesting, more fun to stimulate him. So outwardly he's quite energetic, but his motivations for being so are a little more morose.
Any other notable facts about their blood: This isn't relevant at the moment, but whenever Miai regains his canonical terminal illness (probably not for awhile, though) it'll probably taste less great on account of the illness itself and all the medication he'll need to take.

Does your character have blood?: Yes
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Yoon-sung is actually a middle for me mainly because while he tends to be a happy clueless flirting jerk, he is also a focused, determined and ruthless jerk under that. I'm not sure if it would make him seem like he would taste good or not, though his canon self also has a layering of anger, betrayal and hatred on top of that too.
Any other notable facts about their blood: He's actually healthy though he does like to drink a little more than he should. And he also loves spicy foods and drinks far too much coffee.

Does your character have blood?: Absolutely
Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: she's still young, but given that her life as a healthy teenager was robbed of her because of the accident that happened when she was 16, I would imagine her blood would betray that to some extent. all her family lives away from her and she's barely in contact with them, or they are dead/outright left, and she pretty much does nothing to try and reach out to build new relationships or better her life, just spinning her wheels and existing day to day while staving off the crippling depression with a YOLO attitude that fools (most) people.
Any other notable facts about their blood: Yin keeps herself fit (somehow) even though her diet consists of way too much fast food, microwave dishes, popcorn and pizza thanks to her living alone and where she works. There's also going to be traces of THC, alcohol, and painkillers in her system at pretty much all times too. She has no supernatural abilities back (yet) but I'm not so sure how it will affect that scent since her canon's Aura and Semblance skills are linked to people's Souls.

Does your character have blood?: Sure does!

Would their blood smell better or worse based on that Affinity: Not exactly sure, he has emotional issues and trauma, which he is sick and tired of dealing with. But recently he has wanted to put more effort into being a more complete person and is relatively driven to be good when he isn't feeling broody and lethargic on top of his self-esteem issues.

Any other notable facts about their blood: In his world everyone has Magoi, which is their life force that makes magic/ki moves possible. It is both a magical and physical force in their bodies, so I imagine that would add and something extra to the texture or taste of his blood? He is canonically immune to fire and heat, so maybe his blood would be spicy?

Diet wise...sorry, he loves his junk food, burgers and all that jazz, he is pretty fit as he runs often, since being on the app he would try to train on his magic and swordplay(both of which would give him more Magoi and make him more fit).
